Halloween School Art Contest

FREE Halloween Glow Sticks & More

Margie’s Outdoor Store, the Gorge Halloween Headquarters, is offering FREE Halloween safety glow sticks, $20 gift certificates, and up to $1,000 in donations to under-funded school art programs in the Gorge with its first annual Halloween School Art Contest.

Color In Ours or Draw Your Own

Kids have a choice of coloring the supernatural illustration on the front of the entry form or creating their own original art on the back of the form.

Original art must feature local legends like the Klickitat Ape Cat, Bigfoot, or UFOs. We are excited to see what the upper-grade kids do with the art creation challenge.

All Who Enter Win Something

Every kid who brings in a completed entry form will receive a FREE Halloween safety glow stick and be entered into a drawing to win a $20 gift certificate to Margie’s Outdoor Store. One random winner will be picked for each school grade (K-12)*.

If more more than 100 kids enter, Margie’s Outdoor Store will donate $1,000 to the underfunded school art programs in the Gorge.

Where and When to Enter

Pick up and drop off entry forms at the family-friendly Margie’s Outdoor Store just east of downtown Bingen: 405 East Steuben street. Look for the huge skeleton and the giant floating fish in the parking lot.

You can also download the entry form here.

Entry forms must be completed and returned to Margie’s Outdoor Store no later than 7pm on Wednesday, October 30th.

School Art Programs Are Essential

Empowering artistic creativity brings many benefits to school-age kids.

It enhances their academic performance, reduces stress, helps improve their communication and collaboration skills, it encourages engagement, and fosters good problem-solving skills, but most importantly, it’s fun!

Unfortunately, it is also often the first part of a school budget to be cut. As a result, many of the art programs of the smaller schools in the Gorge are tragically underfunded.

The owners of Margie’s Outdoor Store hope this program will raise awareness, bring tangible benefits to local kids, and celebrate the fun, local stories that make our Gorge culture so unique and interesting.

More Details and Some Fine Print

Even if 100 kids do not enter the contest, Margie’s Outdoor Store will still donate $500 to the underfunded school art programs in the Gorge.

Contest entries may be displayed in the store, on social media, or on this website. If displayed, ALL identifying information will be hidden.

One entry per child please.

Donations will be administered by the non-profit ArtsInEd organization

* Margie’s Outdoor Store reserves the right to not offer a Gift Certificate drawing for any K-12 grade level that has less than 10 entries.
